Welcoming the new DfGE course to our training offering

Design for Greater Efficiency Course now available at GBCSA

GBCSA Academy recently added a new training product to our course offerings. We are excited to announce the Designing for Greater Efficiency (DfGE) course, which is designed to improve climate literacy for both senior students and professionals in the industry, focusing on green buildings.
The course is developed and by the IFC (International Finance Corporation – a member of The World Bank Group), and facilitated by GBCSA.
The aim is to equip learners with the knowledge to design resource-efficient structures contributing to the building sector’s transition to a low-carbon future. By undertaking the DfGE course, students and building design professionals worldwide can develop the expertise to design buildings with a reduced environmental impact.

– Calculation of efficiency metrics using EDGE App

Module 2: Form, Skin and Climate
– Bioclimatic Design
– Passive design strategies – orientation, form, sun

Module 3: Engineering Architecture
– HVAC systems for heating and cooling
– Controls for ventilation
– Best practices in energy efficiency
– Benchmarks and case studies

Module 4: Lighting and Photovoltaics
– Daylighting
– Lighting systems and controls
– Renewable technologies such as photovoltaic panels

Module 5: Water and Materials
– Water efficiency measures
– Efficient options for construction
– Embodied Carbon in materials

Module 6: Making the Business Case
– Client, Developer, and Design Firm’s POV
– Costs and Payback Period
– Financial Resources and Incentives
– Green consulting as a professional service

The course covers the fundamentals of energy and resource efficiency measures in building design from a technical and commercial perspective. Case studies and examples teach learners how to design for resource efficiency and how to market those designs in a commercial setting.

Lisa Reynolds

Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director

Lisa Reynolds is the CEO of the Green Building Council South Africa.

Lisa was the driver for the drafting of Energy Efficiency Standards and Regulations for Buildings and has been involved in Energy Efficiency since 2003. She serves on many committees in the SABS and within the energy management professionals’ space. She was President of the SAEEC from 2016 to 2019 and was the previous President of the ESCo (Energy Services Companies) Association. Lisa was instrumental in the formation of SAFEE (Southern African Females in Energy Efficiency) within SAEEC.

She has assisted the South African Government with its Green Building Framework policies, Energy Efficiency Tax Incentives and Energy Efficiency Strategies

Her passion for the “Green space” started with the birth of the Green Building Council in 2007. Lisa served on the Board and the Technical Committee of the GBCSA, as well as on several Technical Working Groups for Rating Tools and Criteria. Lisa. became CEO in June 2020.

Lisa has a BSc, an MBA and a CEM. Lisa’s awards include the 2007 ETA Award for Women, 2008 Individual Energy (SAEE), 2012 SABS Standards Writer Award; the 2014 Women in Energy (SAWIEN); and the 2016 Ian Lane Hall of Fame award.

Lisa is committed to growing the Green Economy within a Green Recovery.
