The 2024 IFC Women in Green Building Competition

GBCSA is delighted to partner with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the third year of the IFC Women in Green Building Competition. The competition aims to empower and upskill women professionals in the property and construction sectors. It runs from June to October 2024.

Empowering Women in Green Building

The competition offers participants the opportunity to gain EDGE Expert green building training and exam access, enhancing their skillsets and service offerings with green building expertise.

How It Works

Phase 1: Application Submission

  • Women professionals are invited to submit an application, including a brief motivation for seeking EDGE qualification and a short biography.
  • A judging panel, comprising GBCSA and IFC-selected judges, will select the Top 10 finalists.

Phase 2: Training and Exams

  • The Top 10 finalists will receive free EDGE Expert training via GBCSA Academy’s online learning platform.
  • After completing the training, finalists will be eligible to take the EDGE exam, which must be completed by 16th October 2024.

Phase 3: Awards and Recognition

  • The Top 3 exam results will receive free tickets to the Green Building Convention 2024 in Cape Town, along with achievement certificates to be awarded at the Convention.
  • The first place winner will also receive a R10 000 Incredible Connection voucher.

Competition Rules, Terms, and Conditions

  • Open to women working in the built environment and related professions based in South Africa, who do not already have an EDGE Expert qualification.
  • The competition is not open to participants shortlisted in the 2022 and 2023 WIGB Competitions.
  • EDGE training and exams must be completed by 16th October 2024.
  • The Top 3 EDGE exam scores will be awarded the following prizes:
    • A pass to the GBCSA Annual Convention in Cape Town (5th – 7th November 2024)
    • Special recognition certificates awarded at the Convention.
  • The first place winner receives a R10 000 Incredible Connection voucher.
  • Travel and accommodation costs for the GBCSA Convention are not included in the prizes.

GBCSA Academy offers EDGE Expert training, empowering professionals to help shape the green buildings of the future. The training is delivered online and on-demand, allowing candidates to complete the training in their own time, and at their own pace.

Lisa Reynolds

Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director

Lisa Reynolds is the CEO of the Green Building Council South Africa.

Lisa was the driver for the drafting of Energy Efficiency Standards and Regulations for Buildings and has been involved in Energy Efficiency since 2003. She serves on many committees in the SABS and within the energy management professionals’ space. She was President of the SAEEC from 2016 to 2019 and was the previous President of the ESCo (Energy Services Companies) Association. Lisa was instrumental in the formation of SAFEE (Southern African Females in Energy Efficiency) within SAEEC.

She has assisted the South African Government with its Green Building Framework policies, Energy Efficiency Tax Incentives and Energy Efficiency Strategies

Her passion for the “Green space” started with the birth of the Green Building Council in 2007. Lisa served on the Board and the Technical Committee of the GBCSA, as well as on several Technical Working Groups for Rating Tools and Criteria. Lisa. became CEO in June 2020.

Lisa has a BSc, an MBA and a CEM. Lisa’s awards include the 2007 ETA Award for Women, 2008 Individual Energy (SAEE), 2012 SABS Standards Writer Award; the 2014 Women in Energy (SAWIEN); and the 2016 Ian Lane Hall of Fame award.

Lisa is committed to growing the Green Economy within a Green Recovery.
