World Green Building Week 2025, 8–12 September 2025
This World Green Buildings Week, we’re celebrating the power of sustainable buildings for business as well as the environment. Organised by World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), this annual initiative is led by the global network of over 75 Green Building Councils and their 46,000 members. It is the world’s largest campaign to accelerate sustainable built environments across the globe.
In recent years, more and more businesses and investors have recognised the importance of green buildings – for people, planet and prosperity. Yet although adoption has grown, and new financing models have made innovative projects more possible, businesses are still underestimating just how much green buildings can do for them, and how much they can do for the world.
That’s why the theme for World Green Building Week 2025 is “Business goes better when you’re bold on buildings.”

In South Africa, GBCSA is hosting an online event that will explore the results of the internationally acclaimed study “Green Building South Africa: A Guide to Costs & Trends”.
This is Southern Africa’s definitive study on the cost of green-certified buildings, using empirical building costing data to understand how little going green truly costs, and the ways in which the market for sustainable properties is changing. This year, for the first time, these costs are connected to the investment performance of certified buildings delivering a clear ‘Green Building Business Case’.
Dr Danie Hoffman, Lead Researcher, Dept. Construction Economics at the University of Pretoria, will present the findings of the 4th Edition, setting the scene for our panel of experts to unpack the trends in the green construction cost premium, and what that means for a green building business case.
