35 Construction Management, Honours students from University of the Witwatersrand enrolled for our Accredited Professional Net Zero Training in May 2023. The group who is currently completing the final assessment component of the course are eager to add the new professional certificate to their portfolios and showed a keen interest in Net Zero carbon during the webinar.

The Wits School of Construction is part of the Green Building movement and continues to invest in the skills development of young professionals to strengthen the Green Economy in South Africa. The Net Zero Webinar was presented by GBCSA Academy and guest Presenter Andre Harms, Founder of Ecolution Consulting (Pty) Ltd and Principal Sustainability Consultant. Andre, unpacked the certification tool by disseminating the Net Zero methodology, analysing the business case strategy  for NET Zero Waste and other categories and presented insightful case studies.

The students found the webinar and training very meaningful to their professional development in the green building space, Tshegofatso Mokgagane-Class representative, shared the following sentiments.

I enjoyed the information and how internationally relevant the course is.  I think it’s very important that young professionals entering the construction industry are encouraged to integrate Net Zero into their work environment.

I enjoyed learning about how some land that is not agriculturally viable can be used for energy credit system for the purpose offset usage.

The entirety of the green building codes encourage onsite efficiency of resources. This will help change how people interact with their building spaces and create more awareness in society.”
