GBCSA Planet Shapers Online Event - Youth-full Solutions

To celebrate Youth Month, the GBCSA has invited the 2022 Greenovate Award Winners to share their winning submissions with our green building community.

Join us on 14 June 2023 for the next GBCSA Planet Shapers Online Event, where tomorrow’s leaders showcase their contribution to the green building movement.

GBCSA CEO Lisa Reynolds will be joined by Anna Reid (University of Cape Town); Msawenkosi Mkhize (University of Cape Town); Mulisa Shavhani (University of Pretoria); Beth Watson (University of Pretoria); Toneka Pasiwe (University of Cape Town); Mbali Mahlangeni (University of Cape Town); Manqoba Mthimkhulu (University of the Witwatersrand); Mpidiseng Mohlaba (University of the Witwatersrand); Asanda Gwala (University of the Witwatersrand); Kingsley Martell (University of the Witwatersrand); and Kyle Motani (University of the Witwatersrand).

Their topics will include: Mycelium Biocomposite as a Sustainable Insulation Solution; Internet of Things technology in monitoring greywater quality for non-potable water use; Carbon-neutral building cooling via phase change materials with ventilation; the impact of the private sector investing in social infrastructure in order to attain ESG goals; the use of Artificial Photosynthesis in the construction of building facades; and the effect of greenness on financial performance of South African REITs.

Grahame Cruickshanks, Growthpoint Properties’ Head of Sustainability and Utilities, will also share an update on the Greenovate 2023 process and submissions.

The Greenovate Awards is brought to you by Growthpoint Properties and the GBCSA and expose students to key sustainability concerns within the property and construction sectors and introduce industry to the fresh thinking and talent available to them. The Awards encourage students to learn about green building and sustainability early on in their careers.

Lisa Reynolds

Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director

Lisa Reynolds is the CEO of the Green Building Council South Africa.

Lisa was the driver for the drafting of Energy Efficiency Standards and Regulations for Buildings and has been involved in Energy Efficiency since 2003. She serves on many committees in the SABS and within the energy management professionals’ space. She was President of the SAEEC from 2016 to 2019 and was the previous President of the ESCo (Energy Services Companies) Association. Lisa was instrumental in the formation of SAFEE (Southern African Females in Energy Efficiency) within SAEEC.

She has assisted the South African Government with its Green Building Framework policies, Energy Efficiency Tax Incentives and Energy Efficiency Strategies

Her passion for the “Green space” started with the birth of the Green Building Council in 2007. Lisa served on the Board and the Technical Committee of the GBCSA, as well as on several Technical Working Groups for Rating Tools and Criteria. Lisa. became CEO in June 2020.

Lisa has a BSc, an MBA and a CEM. Lisa’s awards include the 2007 ETA Award for Women, 2008 Individual Energy (SAEE), 2012 SABS Standards Writer Award; the 2014 Women in Energy (SAWIEN); and the 2016 Ian Lane Hall of Fame award.

Lisa is committed to growing the Green Economy within a Green Recovery.
