Net Zero Insights Series: Part 2 - Net Zero Ecology
ZOOMManaging our landscapes, from individual gardens to vast areas of indigenous grasslands, is vital for sequestering and storing carbon while also increasing and protecting the biodiversity of our plants and animals.
Understanding the impact of a building on its surrounding ecology is a critical consideration for any sustainable building project. Join our upcoming Net Zero Insights Workshop on Net Zero Ecology to deepen your understanding and make a difference in mitigating the environmental crisis.
This Insights Workshop aims to provide comprehensive guidance on Net Zero Ecology best practice. Facilitated by Marc Sherratt, Managing Director of Sustainability Architects, Marc will unpack the importance of regenerating endangered vegetation types in cities.
The workshop will cover:
- Discuss the urgency of protecting nature.
- Understanding the Net Zero/Net Positive: Ecology Concept
- Unpacking the South African National Biodiversity Offsetting Policy
- Evaluate the biodiversity framework and its impact on NZ Building certification.
- Strategies to accelerate the transitions to net zero whilst safeguarding the biodiversity.
- Building/Design and portfolio level (Certification)
- Offsite: Biodiversity offsets and credits
- Workshop the Eco-Calculator: Assess the different types of vegetative and non-vegetative cover on a proposed development site.

They designed and built the county's first Net Positive Ecology Level 2 (Measured) project as well as designed and certified the national government's first Net Zero Carbon Level 1(Modelled) building.
