About the Course Presenters:

Lisa Reynolds, Chief Executive Officer, GBCSA

Lisa Reynolds is the CEO of the Green Building Council South Africa. Lisa’s advocacy efforts over the past 20 years have helped shape the energy landscape in Southern Africa leading to energy efficiency transformation. She has advocated and driven the program for Regulation for Energy Efficiency in buildings.

She serves on many committees in the SABS and within the energy management professionals’ space. Lisa has served on the Regulatory Advisory Committee (RAC) which drafted National Building Regulation XA (NBRXA) and drove the drafting of the supporting standards for the Regulations – SANS 10400-XA (NBR-XA Deemed-to-satisfy – Energy Efficiency in Buildings). Lisa was the nominated facilitator of the Working Group for SANS 1544 (Energy Performance Certificates). Lisa is the Chair of the SANAS TCs for EPC Building Inspectors that set and is refining, the requirements for the accreditation steps for EPC Inspection Bodies. Lisa holds a BSc, an MBA and CEM. Lisa’s awards include the 2007 ETA award for Women, 2008 Individual Energy (SAEE), 2012 SABS Standards Writer Award; the 2014 Women in Energy (SAWIEN); and the 2016 Ian Lane Hall of Fame award.

Lisa is passionate about progressing the built environment and industry uptake of all aspects of the green economy in both the Public and Private Sectors.

Claudia Hedley: EPC Expert & Sustainability Specialist, Metronomic

Claudia is a dedicated Technical Signatory for the SANAS Accredited Inspection Body at RMS, assessing over 200 buildings nationally. Her journey began as an undergrad in Geography from Wits and she is currently completing her MSc in Geography through UNISA. She is a Green Star Existing Building Performance (EBP) Accredited Professional and has completed various certifications, staying current with industry advancements through courses from NCPC (the National Cleaner Production Centre, South Africa) in Energy Efficiency.

Throughout her career, she has worked on several diverse projects, from residential homes to large-scale commercial buildings, consistently integrating eco-friendly solutions and tariff optimitisation solutions. Her expertise lies in project management and assisting others in creating innovative, energy-efficient implementations that reduce environmental impact and enhance occupant well-being in the built environment.

About EPCs:

To enhance energy efficiency in South Africa, non-residential buildings are required to monitor and publicly display their energy consumption through an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) by December 2025.

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) signifies the energy efficiency of a building, represented on a performance scale from A to G, where A denotes the highest level of energy efficiency and G the lowest. 

Only a Registered Professional can issue an EPC. 

EPCs for buildings are developed in accordance with the South African National Standard SANS 1544:2014.
