National Arbor Day kicks off on the first official day of Spring

National Arbor Week kicks off on the first official day of Spring – Friday, 1 September. Why not pledge a tree to celebrate? We’d like to highly recommend two organisations that make it really easy for corporates to help our people and planet – one tree at a time.

Western Cape members can pledge through Greenpop  at a cost of R120 per tree and Gauteng members via Save Our Planet – Plant a Tree at Willow Feather Farm  at a cost of R150 per tree. In both cases, indigenous trees will be planted in areas where they are much needed and the tree planting will be used as an opportunity to educate communities about trees and their importance in the ecosystem.

Greenpop is an award-winning non-profit organisation on a mission to (re)connect people with our planet. They plant trees, grow food, educate people and have fun doing it! They work on urban greening, reforestation, and food growing projects, and educating people through practical workshops. Greenpop was founded in 2010 and has since planted almost 80 000 trees at schools and other urban sites as well as forests and farms across South Africa, Zambia and Tanzania.

Willow Feather Farm joins with individuals and corporates to join them in greening South Africa. Being growers of their own trees, they provide top quality trees to sponsors and corporate at great prices. This ensures that more trees can be planted with the money received from corporate sponsorships. They also head-up their own community greening programmes that can be co-sponsored by businesses looking to actively offset their carbon emission, and both local and international partners are welcomed.
