Join us for an interactive knowledge-packed EDGE Expert V3 online workshop. The workshop helps teams understand the EDGE standard, utilise the EDGE app and navigate the certification process. The session will prepare and qualify candidates to take the EDGE exam!

EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) is a simple user-friendly green rating system in the form of an online software platform. EDGE determines the financial viability of a project's green potential. Smart, fast, affordable EDGE makes sure green homes are available to all.

EDGE Experts are professionals who help a developer, owner and project team understand the EDGE standard, software, and certification system. The scope of an EDGE Expert’s work includes advice on green design and assistance with preparation of an application for EDGE certification.


Module 1: Introduction to GBCSA and EDGE

  • Recognise the GBCSA’s purpose, vision and mission.
  • Understand the background and purpose of EDGE.


Module 2: EDGE: The Vision

  • Define EDGE and understand the EDGE vision.
  • Identify the use case and benefits of EDGE.
  • Recognise how EDGE sets green building standards.
  • Understand an overview of the EDGE certification process.


Module 3: Defining Green Design

  • Define green building design.
  • Recall the basic characteristics of green building design.


Module 4: EDGE Certification Methodologies, Resources and Expert Process

  • Explain how EDGE does calculations
  • Explain how EDGE creates base case buildings
  • Understand how users should utilise the EDGE software for support
  • Know how to access user guides for further support
  • Identify and use a range of available resources to aid in developing yourself as an EDGE expert


Module 5: The EDGE Certification Process

  • Recall the aim and process of EDGE certification.
  • Recognise each stage of the certification process.
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities involved throughout the process.
  • Describe all documentation and submission procedures for EDGE certification.


Module 6: EDGE Green Measures:

  • Energy Efficiency Measures
  • Water Efficiency Measures
  • Materials Efficiency Measures
  • Understand how demand is reduced by passive elements.
  • Recognise how to reduce energy usage by systems.
  • Identify when to reduce demand by supplying renewables.
  • Identify key water efficiency measures.
  • Understand how to lower embodied energy through the efficient use of materials.

Lisa Reynolds

Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director

Lisa Reynolds is the CEO of the Green Building Council South Africa.

Lisa was the driver for the drafting of Energy Efficiency Standards and Regulations for Buildings and has been involved in Energy Efficiency since 2003. She serves on many committees in the SABS and within the energy management professionals’ space. She was President of the SAEEC from 2016 to 2019 and was the previous President of the ESCo (Energy Services Companies) Association. Lisa was instrumental in the formation of SAFEE (Southern African Females in Energy Efficiency) within SAEEC.

She has assisted the South African Government with its Green Building Framework policies, Energy Efficiency Tax Incentives and Energy Efficiency Strategies

Her passion for the “Green space” started with the birth of the Green Building Council in 2007. Lisa served on the Board and the Technical Committee of the GBCSA, as well as on several Technical Working Groups for Rating Tools and Criteria. Lisa. became CEO in June 2020.

Lisa has a BSc, an MBA and a CEM. Lisa’s awards include the 2007 ETA Award for Women, 2008 Individual Energy (SAEE), 2012 SABS Standards Writer Award; the 2014 Women in Energy (SAWIEN); and the 2016 Ian Lane Hall of Fame award.

Lisa is committed to growing the Green Economy within a Green Recovery.
