BACKGROUND

Operating a building has become an increasingly complex endeavour. With the growing awareness of sustainable practices, building occupants have higher expectations of workplace environments. At the same time, the rising costs of resources place extreme pressure on building owners, facility managers and property managers to operate buildings at top performance levels while keeping their operating costs low.

The key to a building owner’s success lies in surmounting these challenges. The first step is to understand your buildings performance through energy and sustainability audits for the purpose of establishing a baseline.

The next step would be to focus on the low cost/no cost improvements immediately and then establish a plan and schedule for implementing whether they are mechanical, plumbing or operational upgrades. And finally what do you measure and track to see if you are making progress.

This course will take you through all the steps necessary to learn this process. Identifying the tools and strategies necessary to help building owners address these diverse needs successfully will be a core element behind this course.

THE COURSE

Offers participants insights from case studies and actual experience of working with a variety of project types that have benefited from adopting these practices. The session will be presented by Elaine Aye and Ted Spear, representing US based Green Building Services Inc. These seasoned professionals bring expertise in successfully assisting owner, facility and property managers to fully understand their buildings performance and discover ways to integrate improvements. An introduction to the GBCSA’s Existing Building Survival Strategy Guide will also be provided during the course of the day.
