The Green Star SA Accredited Professional Exam is an online exam that can be taken anywhere, anytime on a computer with a continuous internet connection.

What do I need to know about the exam content

The exam tests the candidate's understanding of the Green Star SA green building rating system, with specific reference to the Green Star SA - Office v1 rating tool. The exam is comprised of 100 multiple choice questions selected randomly from a pool of questions relating to the categories below:

  • - The GBCSA
  • - The Green Star SA rating system framework
  • - The Green Star SA certification process
  • - The general concepts and aims of the Green Star SA credits
Prior to the exam, please ensure that you have read the relevant sections of the Green Star SA Office v1 Technical Manual and the GBCSA website adequately. Candidates are not expected to know explicit technical details (such as calculation methods or in-depth knowledge of reference standards).

The exam may be taken as often as required to pass, however the fee of R850 is applicable for every attempt.

On achieving a successful exam score of 75% or greater, certificates confirming Green Star SA Accredited Professional status are issued to successful candidates and their professional details are included on the GBCSA online directory of Green Star SA Accredited Professionals, enabling members of the public to search for qualified individuals by profession or location.

NB: Where candidates fail to achieve a score of 75% or greater, no refunds for exam fees will be available under any circumstances.

The exam fee is R850 including VAT (for members and non-members) and is paid online via credit card, EFT or voucher. On completing the questions below, you will be taken to the exam platform which contains more detail on these payment options.

On achieving a successful exam score of 75% or greater, certificates confirming Green Star SA Accredited Professional status are issued to successful candidates and their professional details are included on the GBCSA online directory of Green Star SA Accredited Professionals, enabling members of the public to search for qualified individuals by profession or location.

Please allow up to 6 weeks between when Green Star SA Accredited Professional status is received and receipt of certificates and listing on the Accredited Professional database.

Although the exam references the Green Star SA - Office v1 rating tool, achievement of Green Star SA Accredited Professional status is valid for all current and future Green Star SA rating tools. Candidates do not need to re-write exams for each Green Star SA rating tool.
