Lesley completed her BSc in Chemical Engineering at UCT in 2009, after which she enrolled for an MPhil in Chemical Engineering and specialised in sustainable development in engineering education. During her years at UCT, Lesley took part in the Global Citizenship Leading for Social Justice Programme and this provided her with an opportunity to engage critically with contemporary global debates and to reflect on issues of citizenship and social justice. She has also been involved with an Education for Sustainable Development workgroup that aims to promote sustainable development practices within industry using systemic and interdisciplinary approaches to environmental protection and socio-economic development. She has presented her work at various conferences in South Africa and recently presented at the International Symposium on The Role of Higher Education for Sustainable Development in Africa in Japan. She has also been involved with South African Women in Engineering Conference Division where she spearheaded a project that aimed at building sustainable communities through green buildings. She joins the GBCSA Technical team as Junior Technical Coordinator.
